Tip of the Trade: Reel It In
By Andy @ 2:01 PM :: 320 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: All, Tips of the Trade

For years we would simply role the air hoses up on the floor next to each outlet.  Of course it works fine, but the dust  would always seem to build up around them creating a mess.

We then decided to stick a dowel on the wall and hang the hose but that was actually worse. The dowel, over time, would create a kink in the hose where the hose hung over the small portion of the dowel.

Decision time.  Either deal with the mess around the floor of shorten the life of the hose.  The solution came after buying hose reel for the shop water hose.  Looked like it would solve the problem with the air hose.

Here is the hose in the upright position.  Notice we mounted the reel up high to prevent the hose from touching the ground.  Makes for easier cleanup.

This particular hose reel folds down, making it a snap to pull the hose out for use.  Most other hose reels don't operate like this, but any style will it keep the hose off the ground.

I would love to tell you where to purchase the reel, but I can't remember.

My solution to having airlines on the floor is to have them mounted from the ceiling using retractable hose reels. Just like the ones that they use to have at any service station you went to. I will post a pic on the BB.
