Virutex Cove Router

I was given the opportunity to test the Virutex Cove Router. Federal Saw and Tool of Pinellas Park, Florida, donated the tool for the test.

The Virutex Cove Router is 750 watts and weight 3 lbs. The operating speed with "no load" is 14,000 - 30,000 rpm. Price is around $450.00.
In the test, three vanity tops were fabricated with cove inserts, then cove routed with the Virutex. The Virutex was very hard to keep steady, even moving as slow as humanly possible, it still wanted to "jump" off of the deck. I attribute this to the lack of weight of the Router and also the lack of power. When put under a load the Router can actually be stopped!

When it came time to sand the cove on the test tops, it took hours to sand, not minutes. From the router "jumping", then coming back down on the deck, it would leave gouges, which took a lot of sanding to repair.

Personally I would rather do a cove backsplash by hand rather than use the Virutex.  Once again I do not believe it was intended for use with solid surface.

I have used the betterly system for many years until I got the Penske Edge cove system. It can't be beat. I still use the betterly router to do my inside cove up the splash.

i have just started to use this cove router and i have to say norm has provided a pretty accurate discription for it here, virtually impossible to insert the block on your countertop and try to do the cove on it,but if you make your cove first and glue it on then add the splashback this router is perfect for removeing both lines of adhesive and that saves a lot of sanding.

Bird, why spend that kind of money if you have to precove the strip, just buy a Betterly for a little bit more.
