Andy and Kelsey,
I will respectfully disagree.

Coke and Pepsi are not the lowest price cola's available so they give 2 of 3.

Kelsey, value is quality, not price. Are you the lowest price countertop? No, the best value for the money, yes, by far, but not the lowest price.

And by the way, I did not coin this concept, it has been around in business for eons and is considered the way things are. I am not being critical. You can not be the lowest price, offer the best quality and have the best service. Service and quality have costs associated with them.

If you don't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them.

Johnny... You are right, noone offers strips any longer, plus LG charges $50 cut fee.

Actually my DuPont dist. still offers strips.  two weeks ago I needed about 4 sq. ft of nocturn for an edge stripe, They obliged.

Bill, Value in my world is the monetary comparison between two items. If a 12 oz coke cost $1 and a 20oz coke cost $1.09 then under your statement the $1.09 Coke cannot be considered, because it is not the lowest price. But in reality, the $1.09 Coke has all three, Value/Cost , quality, service.

Value has to include worth in it, doesn't it?

Andy,
You are on the right track. The business guru's believe you can provide 2 of the 3.

Kelsey,
No, in that example you would do the price per unit (fluid oz). Value and worth are definately related. I am not educated enough in this to determine the relationship to price.

And to both of you, remember this is from the business guru's, I did not create it and in no way want you to think I am attacking you or your business and workmanship.

It is my personal belief that most consumers want a balance of the three. I truly believe that most people know that good quality and service do have a cost. It is also my belief that both of you have figured out what that balance is in your market. In this economy, if you have not, you will not survive.

If you don't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them.

My point was, lets say you are a box store fab, and it is sq ft only, you have no option of upcharge. Do you take the hit over and over.. ouch!!

Hopefully if you're doing business with a box store then you are fabricating a lot of tops. The chances of having another order that is the same color will increase greatly. Just keep track of what you have an use it on the next job.

Yes, there's always the chance that someone is going to order a 76" vanity in a color that you're never going to sell again. Use that color for your seam blocks or send it to Gene to be cut up into 20 whatchamacallits.

Brian:

I appreciate what you're saying, but I've heard that on Vietera jobs for Lowe's, Vietera requires the fabricator to buy the sheets required for the job. If you've got leftover from a previous job you could have used, too bad.
