Best I can tell, the closest Ryan Bingham will get to you is about 100 miles, Tom. But if you're up for a drive, he puts on a great show. |

October 15th at the Royale in Bean Town. Never went to a sow there, but it is supposedly a good hall. It says he will be playing the Austin City Limits festival. Does that mean he has a chance of appearing on the tube? |

I would think so. After his song from "Crazy Heart" won the Oscar, I saw him on Letterman. |

I'd like to see that, if it airs. Do you follow Austin City Limits? |

I don't watch it all the time, but I do check out who they've got. It seems to be reliably very good. |

Yeah, its embarrassing when someone is better on a phone than you are on the actual instrument. I could give the bass player a good run, though. Awesome ad if Apple is smart enough. Thanks for sending it on, Joe. |

Yeah, well, that outfit doesn't fit me anymore, so... I never learned the whole thumb slap thingy on the bass. He's good, that's for sure. If I had to guess, he is cosplaying outfits from the anime show he plays the theme to. I never watched K-On, so I can't be sure. |

Heck, KC, my first band was a blues band. Three chords and out. I think someone here already posted that link,. Hilarious for sure, but not really surprising. Music passages sound good for a reason. Change the keys and the chord progressions will still have the same musical effect on your hearing. In musical parlance that's a I, V, vi, IV, which notes a Major root chord, a major 5th, a minor 6th and a major 4th. Swap the chords around to get a Major root, a minor 6th, a major 4th and a major 5th (with a seventh note attached) and you have all the best fifties hits as well.

amazing how many blue grass and blues tunes are 1, 4 ,5
Im learning some Jethro Tull tunes, anything but 1 4 5 although Ian Andersons writes with similarity, must be the celtic in him. |

David, just guessing, isn't locomotive breath I IV V? You can find some blues on 'stand up'. I think Pied Piper might be three chords (Too Old to Rock and Roll). |

My Daughter was first seat flute in High School. I tried to get her to play Tull. *Sniff* ................................................................................................................ Maybe Patrick or one of the fabbers from across the pond will tell us what a Jet Black Mack is. Anyways - better start your raving, and your misbehaving. What a great album. Not a bad song in the bunch. Tull leaves me with a different favorite for whatever the mood is. From Songs from the Wood to Minstrel in the gallery ( I think my current fav is Baker Street Muse). |

I like the line "and his sister's weird she drives a Lorry"
I 'm also starting "Dun Ringill"
What brought this Tull fetish back on was I have been revisiting my music collection that is now on the Ipod. I use to listen to so much Tull, it fed my lusting for acoustic guitar. Tull and Steve Howe from "Yes". I had a huge poster in my room of Tull, My dad refered to Ian Anderson as "the fruit with the flute"
"Let me bring you songs from the wood, to make you feel better than you could know" Great album cover too!
Do you ever listen to Richard Thompson? Another of my favs.
got me all excited here!!! |

I liked some of Thompson. I was surprised he wrote Vincent Black Lightning when I heard Del McCoury do it. I don't know too much about Fairport Convention an his time with Linda (ex wife), but I own Hand of Kindness and like almost every song on it. Tear stained letter could be done in almost any music style out there. Tull's 'Pibroch (cap in hand)' is one of those songs where, like so many Fred Eaglesmith songs, you find out at the end some important, often sad fact that puts the whole thing in perspective. In this case you realize he looks through the window of a house his former love and he shared. "Strange slippers by the fire, strange boots in the hallway. With my cap on my head, I turn - and walk away". That's great writing. |
