Guy,  I would be happy to clear this up If I may.   First , I would never intend to offend anyone here.  I mixed it up a bit at SFA over radon but still I have a lot of respect for many a stone fabricator there, here  and everywhere.

After seeing the origional post I suggested Andy post it at SFA to see how they might feel about renegade fabricators (no credentials that is)and solicit an opinion from a larger population of stone only  guys.       I did see some pics posted like that at SFA once as I mentioned.      It was during a heated debate,  I was merely  a public observer as were many.

I humbly posted a pic of us  cleaning up a sink cut out at a very remote site in a driveway maybe to point out I have had to do it myself on a rare occasion.

Im not the best writer or teller of stories on the planet so if my point came off wrong... my apologies.

I completely agree with Andy on the strive to improve our industries from both sites.

                thanks  Dave G

Thanks for the clarification Dave.  I apologize for putting words in your mouth as to what your thoughts were.

This industry (c-tops in general) need exactly what both of us are doing.  We need to raise the bar and educate as many end users as possible why they should choose you and I...reputable, honest, quality fabricators.

And should this type of picture have been posted at the SFA site I can guarantee that it would have been HAMMERED!   Not a practice (full fabrication) that is accepted as norm....only on the rare occasions that there is no other choice.

I'm embarrased to admit that I redid an undermount cutout at a clients house today because the sink box that came from the big box store was mislabeled.  We should have caught it but there we were, an hour away from the shop, with a decision to make....

And so we reworked the top in the client's back yard, they were happy and I collected a check.

Dan,

That is a bit different than what these folks were doing.  The guys across the street, fabricated the tops in the driveway.

We have had to fabricated in the driveways before too, but not the entire tops.

Funny stuff though.

the economy has created a lot of this behavior.. granite distributors as well as shops have felt the crunch some have gone out of business and many have had to lay off fabricators. many of theses out of work fabricators have probably looked for work. with no jobs available they resort to what they know fabrication they have family's to feed so they do what you see in the photos. the stone yards have no problem selling them slabs because of declining sales due to the economy and the increase of fabricators going direct and importing ( the smart thing to do ). as the economy comes back and jobs are available these guys will go back to work doing what they know.

lets face it we are all in a fight i know there are rules as far as licensing, taxes, labor laws, and so on and us so called "GOOD GUYS " fallow the rules. but this is a fight and for many there are no rules.
