Just read an article about a bill in congress ("Home Improvements Revitalize the Economy" HIRE) about giving tax incentives to people that remodel their homes with environmentally approved items.
What a bunch of crap. If the government would stop stimulating the American people with these stimulus packages, we would all be better off in the future. This is nothing more than relieving your depression with a hit of crack. Fix the real problem and the economy and jobs will come back stronger and stable.

Im still waiting for cash for clunker countertops..just drag it in and 4500 is credit to your top This C4C program is wacked...people are now spoiled they dont want to ever buy a car unless they get that discount...car dealers are packed but only voucher vehicles...when it ends we'll see...I think a stimulus is like taking a shower after being dirty and sweaty..then you take a nice stimulus shower and go jump in the mud...and complain about being dirty again |

In order to stimulate the housing market you either have to start knocking down houses or start increasing the population at a fast enough rate that the available housing is less than the demand. |

Follow the money.. the C4C is nothing but a pay off to the unions...I find it funny the higher selling cars were NOT in union plants... All this did was draw everyone that was going to buy in the next year into the showrooms, when its over sales will fall off the table. Plus, most dealers were not knocking much off the MSRP so they were making good money, at OUR expense. As far as housing, July set a record for forecloures...and 2010 and 2011 are expected to be worse as all the 5 year ARMS reset, coupled with high unemployment. Interesting, once you pass the initial unemployment period, typically 26 weeks they no longer count you on the unemployed rolls.. even if your continuting to draw UC. Also the stats are pre set to add jobs for plants that close seaonally during the summer.. IE auto plants.. problem is this year they were off earlier and were working , so those jobs that were added actually lowered the number of "lost jobs". Watch next month when the stats are updated for a jump in the numbers. We have problems and its caused mostly by too much government intervention, not by too little. Cap and Tax, Health Care will only add to the "great recession" prolonging it for years to come. For those that wanted "Change" .. hows that working out for you? Government control of the Auto Companies, Financial industry, they own 70% of all mortagages in the country.. yea.. great change. And don't forget a 2,000,000,000,000 debt this year ! God Help Us.. |

Unintended consequences
I have always purchased GM or Chrysler vehicles... never again. I will not give any of my money to a company run by thugs Wags: I appreciate your sentiment, but aren't you a little late? The goons hired by by the auto executives in the thirties beat and killed the union organizers that died to give the rest of us the eight-hour day, pensions, health insurance, worker's compensation, unemployment compensation, weekends and created the American middle class. Talk about thugs. Joe |

Just because at some point the Unions were needed, and no doubt they were, doesn't mean that forever they are needed. The unions have held the American Auto industry in Michigan hostage for decades. I think we all can see what havoc this has brought on the industry, let alone the state. Just because at some point in the past they were able to get all the extreme wages and bennies, doesn't it mean they can today. Now that the Unions, which were made 100% whole in the BK, are running the company, till they are out of business? Lets see, SEIU, the Plumbers union, just a few that have shown up at Dem congressional "townhall" Meetings to harrass the public. And Joe, my dad was in the teamsters for almost 50 years he also learned to acknowledge what they became. |

Unions had there place in history and proved to be beneficial. Now, with greed and power, the unions have ruined the auto industry. The proof will be when both Chrysler and GM go out of business. Watch when Penske takes over Saturn. He will be able to make a profit without the unions involved. |
