What's Twitter you ask? Another way to communicate about your company. Why not look it up to see if it has value for you?

But if your interested look me up on Twitter  Under the name "Sterling Surfaces".  Look up Andy as well under the name "TheFabNet"

I have to admit I don't understand Twitter all that well. It is like little tiny bits of information that gets passed around all day. I do have a Twitter thingy and people link to it, I just need to better understand it.

Linkedin is great for business, especially if you looking for contact information in the industry or your out of work.

Andy your twitter sight works good anytime you put an up-date on it the message is sent your followers.  I tweet my kids it goes to there cell phone and It doesn't cost for a text message. I would rather type a message than text it.

In the case of Sterling any time we have news I'll post it. Kind of like a mini blog.

    Jon,
sterlingsurface at 15 characters is the max that Twitter will allow as a user name. I've signed up and am now following Sterling.
How do you see its use in business given that one is supposed to merely use it to describe what one is presently doing?
Is it that it will be cheaper to text notes to your team? I'd be interested in seeing what its value as a business tool will be.

Thanks for the good info Patrick.  I use twitter for marketing purposes. My two agenda needs are

1-Google presence with my web-site. I feel the more social networking sites I use the more people will click onto my web-site thus raising my web presence. Any time I post on twitter it goes to the sterling face book page and LinkedIn page. of course this does take a little effort. But I love the results.

2-I'm fishing for clients using twitter and the such. I plan out my stagey as to who I'm looking for and than cast my hook. It's working pretty good.

I haven't used it to text employees. Mainly because I don't want to dilute the message to my prospective clients . We also have a group texting plan here so the phone is my go to on that matter

Good to see you on Twitter. I'm amazed how many business owners refuse to accept the internet as a way to communicate. "Rolling stones gather no moss" Got to keep up or you will go away.

    Wags,

The idea is to create an identity and get followers to trust you are the expert.

For Example, let's say you have a bunch of designers that are willing to follow you. One morning you are introduced to the new Consentino Eco line, so you post a tweet saying that you have just seen the new collection and it looks great. Post a second time telling your followers if they would like to see the samples, to drop you an email.

This gets them excited and creates interest. You must be careful not to post irrelevant crap that your followers will not like. They will drop you fast.

I say keep the personal stuff off the tweets unless you are a TV or radio personality where followers want to know your every move.

Hello Wags what Andy said is good advice. I don't use it a a personal  forum strictly business. Daily I post a picture of something we made or post a link to a subject that may interest my potential clients. it takes to build the twitter account as well. I started slow until I knew what direction . If you want you can call me I can explain more

Here's an idea I would like to run buy you guys. I feel twitter and face book go hand and hand. What if you where to make a face book fan page . Than tell all your customers that your going to post all the latest and greatest info there for them to review. Things like color up-dates,special programs etc.. than link your twitter account to your fan page. Every time you post on twitter the same post will show up on your fan page.

(For an example you can review Sterling Surfaces fan page on facebook)

I don't know about you but I think dealers get tired of seeing sales people. If you give them other recourses it makes you look better.

Another thing if you do get a twitter account look for local companies that twitter as well. such as animal shelters, chamber of commerce. Don't just follow them make up-building comments. portray your company as the good guys. You never know somebody that's following the animal shelter might just need a CT. They see you and call you up.

    Jon,
thanks for the explanations and the link. Both excellent.
Why use Facebook rather than your website?
