So one of my guys decides to cut some aluminum on the saw stop. Just cost us $75.00 cartridge +a blade..

That's probably something to watch out for if you do a lot of laminate work. I know there are quite a few that have a metal layer on top.

So if I understand correctly, it bits into the blade to stop it and ruins the teeth on it?

Correct.

The blade retracts down into the machine and slams into the metal brake. Stopping (and destroying) the blade and brake.
