Oh Tom,

you derailer of threads I guess Im now a junior derailer.

Thanks Tom,

That link was thought provoking. My Dad retired from GM, (early retirement- more than 20 years in). The health benefits were cut to nill, the retirement is almost nothing. He berated me when I bought a Toyota. I had to laugh. I said Dad, when I went to the GM plant with you, half the employee lot was Imports. Ive bought my fair share of GM products , a vega (uggh remember those), 2 camaros, and a K1500 truck. Toyota has one of the best safety records, good quality, good mileage, good price. That’s why I bought it. Im thinking of my family, not some blood sucking CEO of GM. If GM made high mileage, good quality cars they wouldn’t be in this mess. GM hung you out to dry, and youre still loyal?

I was in a meeting once, where upper management was berating a middle management guy for leaving to go to another company. They berated him for having no loyalty. He replied if you want loyalty , hire a cocker spaniel! Ive actually used that line since, but add “ see if he can do the job and is willing to put his paw print on that BS non compete agreement!”

When the bailout the countertop industry and give us 25 billion I will be willing to help them out.  They have nonsensical contracts that are way above the norm.  I would buy and American Car if they could make one that worked.

Why can Hyundai and Toyota build cars in America for less and better quality?

This thead is about as derailed as the car companies.  We need government intervention to get it back on track.

Andy,

Darn straight man! Where is the bail out for fabbers, and small biz, the backbone of the US economy?. I dont hear one whisper about that! You are correct sir. Also word to the wise...Im guessing, that unlike the big 3 auto makers, Fabnet, or Olive Mill, like Ba Shi Ba, didnt kick in mad campaign contributions!

I just do not see how they can even consider helping these guys out when the CEO's do not even seam to want to help there own company so they can have a job past what 2009.

I did not hear this directly but was told from someone I trust that the Chrysler Ceo said he would work for the next year for a dollar if the government helped. The Gm Ceo was asked if he would he said no but he would cut his in half ( I beleive he earned something like 6 to 7 million last year)
They asked the Ford CEO same question he said nope but he would keep his wages they same. (again I think he was in the 5 million and up range for salary last year). Like I said numbers could be off going on hearsay with it.

Anyhow with attitudes like that how can you even feel sorry for them. They run the company like crap and then expect to keep getting paid those ridiculus wages for what compiling all the information from the guys under them that give them suggestions as to what they should do. I say take these fools strip them of their suits put em in a pair coveralls toss them out on the streets and see if they can figure out how to start a company with no more than the money in their wallets. Perhaps then they will figure out how dumb they really look. Well one can hope any way.

Reuben,

Don't give Robert Nardelli (Chrysler CEO) too much credit.  When he took the job, it was reported that he would only take $1.00 per year and his pay would be tied to the turnaround of Chrysler.  I guess he can live off of his $38 Million he got from Home Depot in 2006 and when that runs out, he can dip into the
$210 M golden parachute, the $20 Million severance package and the $32Million retirement package he got when he left HD.

Linda,

Do not worry about me giving any these guys to much credit. I was just repeating what I was told and I thought well that sums up my opinions about them all any way, all the are really concerned about is their millions and who cares about the people that built the place they are working at in the first place.
I am sorry but this whole copporate and union wage BS gets old especially when small rural communities like mine are fighting to keep our largest employer of 550 people around, along with another community in georgia i beleive. Both places owned by the same company and right now they are just looking to see which can offer them the best Christmas package andgenerate the largest profits for them.
