Particle mask is the key word here.   I guess consider a respirator  something that filters harmfull fumes not just dust and flying sawdust ect, this is not a respirator   IMO.        I use the 3m face shield/hood since my   deviated septum surgery.    Much less crap on your person.

XM radio thru the  hearing protectors too, blocks out the hum of the fan motor.

I will say  too that you will have a sore neck by the end of the day untill you get use to it.

Well, here's a question. Why? While I'm sure N95 particle masks or a 3M or like respirator are in every shop, who is going to walk around with that contraption on? And...$270.00? Ouch.  Tell ya one thing for sure, nobody in the hotter states is wearing that during summer unless it has some type of AC unit.

    Dave

    Wrong wrong wrong!

That type of unit is cooler than any other type of respirator because it fits loosly around your neck and the blower supplies a continous stream of clean air. It does not need to fit tight because there is positive pressure inside keeping the contaminated air outside. I have tried one on once and if I needed to wear a respirator most of the time, that type of unit would be my first choice. There are other brands as well and I know some of them are rated to last 8 hours on a battery charge.

How easy is it to keep the face plate clean?

Can you put venting holes on the front to help keep the dust down? Or will the static override ant advantage there?

Isn't that the thing Michael J. Fox wore in Back to the Future while standing over his future fathers bed and playing Van Halen?

Here ya go,  I didn't turn the fan on and the protective  tear away layer is shot so as to hide my face    but this is my saftey set up.    3M  "air lite"    w/ fm  xm radio hearing protectors.   I comes with 2 rechargeable ni-cad batts and I purchased an extra washable filter.    It has a fan built in and a neoprene  neck seal.     Definetly less  external stuff than some of the others.

    David

Thanks for the pics of your sheld.  It looks kind of like the Trend Airshield.  I have looked at it  also but for a price differance of only about $30, I thought th Triton might be a better deal.  Right now I use the paper filter masks, a clear face shield and either ear plugs or muffs, whichever is closer at the time.

You mean   "Alaska Men"  magazine.    Hey, you gave me the idea,   when I saw your pic during the  first  "Wing Ding".  It was the shape if your hair cut, kinda flat on top?                                                                    I'll let this die right here

Let's say I buy one, is it just for one guy or can different guys use them when needed.  Some guys don't like to use a face shield that someone else is going to use.
