David,
Is there a link that takes us to the story? I'm having a bit of a time finding it. |

Tom,
In case you did not figure it out yet, scroll down on the first page then click on the camera thing that says arts. It then takes you to another page and have to scroll a little and look for the Seafaring strangers.

Reuben,
I still can't get it. Although I do see that Ellis Paul is playing out there. He's a good guy, and a pretty good finger picker from Maine. |

Hello Dave I found it. Thanks for sharing. Very nice. I think that gives us three fabricators bands now that belong to the fab net. I also enjoyed reading the Home page. Learning about other parts of the world is interesting to me. Homer looks like a cool place to live. How many people live there? |

Thanks guys, Thanks Norm for the shortcut. I also found that audio clip of the practice session. This will be my 3rd time at this concert. Sally and I are the constant members. first band was " Out of the crawlspace" 2nd time " Regressing Nicley" OTCS had a fiddler and a violinist. one used short strokes and the other long. Made for a killer rendition of "Mexicaly Blues" and Santana's "The game of Love". This time mando and bouzuki. One great thing about this concert is that all the musicians are local. In the band there is a ferrier, line splicer(big ass comm. cable), engineer, Bookstore/cafe/B&B owner and 1 wiseass. The hospitality tent is unbelivable, donated gormet food and unlimited amounts of HOMER BREWING beverages. I'll wear my favorite T-Shirt! Who else has bands here? Please share. David |

David,
I don't know if you caught this link before. It has three entries my former band placed for a Fred Eaglesmith Tribute CD. Some Roads, the cut I sang lead on made the final cut and is on the CD.
I'll try to forward you some stuff we did that we wrote.
ALSO - BONUS!!!(!)
This is an awesome site for "The Best Song Ever Written"
I don't necessarily agree with BSE, but it is a remarkable page. |

Holy crap Tom, Nice stuff you got there. My wife Lisa loved it too. Great voice, you did spend the $$ on singing lessons! I've never heard of Fred before. I'll have to check it out. After listening I thought of a song you might like. It's a Woody Gutherie song "Pastures Of Plenty" done by one of my favorite bands Solas (Shamus Egan) it's on the " Words That Remain" cd. I knew there was more to you than just bustin fabber's balls. By the way which of the 2 studs are ya in the pic?
Definetly send me some of your stuff I bet if I sent you a copy of all our tune list you would see we probably play similar stuff. Do ya like Gillian Welch and David Rollins? I'm going to rebuild an old arch top this winter cause of his sound.
Thanks Tom , Davey strum bum |

I am eternally jealous of anyone that can play the guitar.
The ladyfriend is a music teacher, I gotta get her to teach me soon. She doesn't have the patience to deal with me though...... |

David,
Thanks. I'm the gorilla with the suspenders.
Seriously, before we added Nanette, we called ourselves the Gashouse Gorillas (Bugs Bunny, anyone?)
It didn't seem right to carry on the name with a lady in the mix.
Fred is a Singer/songwriter from Southern Ontario. His earlier stuff is better, but he's a brilliant writer throughout. I highly recommend him.
No dollars went toward singing lessons, and it shows. I play a reasonably good bass, but my strumming on guitar is ham and egg at best. Nanette did all the finger picking, as well as the fiddle.
Love Welch and Rollins. I bought my wife the revelator DVD one year. Awesome stuff. I first heard them on the Down From The Mountain concert. I always loved Emmylou, and had heard Allison Kraus, but Gillian Welch was brand new to me.

Hey I checked out the ghost rider page, I must say nobody belted it out like Henry Paul (outlaws)( my opinion)
We do some Alison K. So long ,So wrong ,Lucky one Dan Timinski put blue grass in the limelight after he did "man of constant sorrow" thats for sure! I'll bet every girl who sings does "down to the river pray"
I sure miss our fiddler Sara, she made my job so easy. All I had to do was keep good time and fill the void with guitar and sing with Sally. Sara did all the great lead work. Last summer the three of us had a great gig..... 3 sets, 4 beers, dinner and $100.00. Then they sold the pub. (not because of us)
Hey Jon, sorry , you asked about the pop here in Homer. If I had to guess I'd say 4000, give or take. It changes dramaticly in winter. The Hawaiians named a bird after this. I forget the name but it means " snow bird" |

Saw a great show on PBS last night. It was a episode of "American Masters" The show was on Les Paul. Recrded music wouldn't be what is is today without Les. During the recording of the show he was 90 years old still jammin! I wonder if he ever saw the infamous Telecaster made of solid surface? |

Man, Les Paul and Mary Ford - whew!
There's a good series on PBS about Stax - tonight features Otis Redding, and how once he had his audition, everyone was blown away by his voice. |

I always thought a roots band could do a great version of TP & the Heartbreaker's "American Girl".
For the Dead, you could always open with "Uncle John's band", but I'm more of an American Beauty fan.
Jimmie Rogers is pretty easy to learn, and "In the jailhouse now" has O Brother familiarity. TB blues, or blue yodel #9 are both awesome. Big Mon did a blue yodel or two and rocked them hard. If youu ever do a PBS type show, do some Frank Hutchinson and Charlie Poole. Might as well educate the masses about where all this music came from.
When you get high speed, I'll send you my version of "Somebody's been using that thing", an old roots tune.
A blog friend also has sent me some great older roots stuff. The Carter family might be a good fit for you guys as well.
Get that high speed running. |

28 annual KBBI Concert on the lawn a big sucess! 2 days of sunny weather and lots of great music. We filled or 2nd place slot on sat with a 40 min set of the listed tunes and lots of banjo jokes! The hospitality tent was outstanding . The fabnet T made the rounds and sucsessfuly avoided getting Oatmeal Stout spilled on it! ( not even a crumb of roasted red pepper pizza when I unhinged my jaw). Sound man treated us right! the last band to play was The " Clumsy Lovers" from western Canada. Should be a review in the local papers this week about the whole event. It is always a great cause and event to be part of here in "The Hamlet By the Sea" Mady, my daughter says "Seafarin Strangers" was her fav. If any good pics surface I'll post them. I think The Homer News has pics up by now in the "Spotted" pages. Thanks for the lettin me share with ya's David G. |
