Been looking at the airfare to Orlando. Has anyone noticed that mid march is peak time for all the college spring breakers? There are no discounts with the major airlines. Last August a flight to Orlando was $118 round trip. today it is $397 for southwest. One could have flown to Orlando this week for $109 if booked 14 days ago.
I really like the idea of having the show at a different place, just wondering if this might hurt the turnout having the show at a place where airline seats are at a high premium? I have not heard that many on this site going?? |

I paid over $500 per person to get there. I think having the show at a different time of year would be great, but when is it a good time. |

Everyone talks about how slow they are in January. Why not have the show in January when we can take the time off work to go. Just a thought. |

Andy, But that would mean you could fly to Orlando for about $280 or if in Vegas, I could get there for about $180 round trip. Hotels are 1/2 price in Vegas that time.....
What show is going on in Orlando now?? My Staron rep is there, Staron has a booth????? |

I made that comment when I saw Orlando in March.. Peak season... January has several shows already and sometimes the Builder show. October in Orlando is a great time of year also. |

What about having the Show in less tourist type places? Last year Vegas was full of Collage Kids . Chicago , Dallas, New York to name a few might be a better place for us. Does it really matter if there aren't any rides or casinos to attend? (Give me a good steak house any day) I don't think weather has much play as well. For the most part where inside anyways.
Has anybody tried Kayak for airline prices ? Pretty good search engine

In the earlier years, the Expo was either February, or even late January. If I remember, I was in Vegas for a super bowl. That was pretty wild.
It got moved to a week where there is a home show up here. Couldn't get away till this year.

Yes Tom Giants Ravens. ISSFA set up a room where we could watch the game. Pretty boring super bowl. But very interesting to watch the crowds emotions as different scores came up.

That's it, Jon. Thanks for the memory.
I didn't spend too much time in the ISSFA room, as I had a bit of fun watching the other guests whoop it up.

Fortunately for me I can drive to this show, but have any of you flying looked at going into Tampa then driving across I-4. I am aware Orlando is not cheap to fly into this time of year. Moving the show to another city such as Chicago or NY even though the airfare might be less, the hotel rooms are considerably more. It wont save you any money elsewhere. The least expensive place to have a convention is Las Vegas. I know, I spend a bit more there too but usually that is due to shows, gambling, etc. A city that is making moves to become more of a convention destination is Atlanta. They just need more hotels.

All:
When it was time to book my room, I looked in the folder Cygnus sent and called the number for the organization that is handling that. I put the phone on speaker for over an hour and never got through. I tried the web site they mentioned, but found out later it was the incorrect address.
I booked my room at the regular rate and called Sandy Milroy, the only one I know at Cygnus. I explained my problem and she had a woman contact me. The woman said she would get back to me but she never has. Cygnus sent me an email a few days ago, I told them all this and no one has contacted me.
So there you have it. Cygnus publishes a phone number that you can't get through on, publishes an incorrect web address, referes you to a woman who promises to get back to you and doesn't and doesn't return an email.
I'm just a paying customer, what should I expect?

I booked my room online it took about 30 seconds. Received an e-mail the same day. No problems what so ever.

Come on you guys, if you're going to have an Expo in the winter, come to San Diego! Chicago??? b.y.o.i.s. (bring your own ice scraper.) We have a great Expo hall right next to the water, lots of places to eat, generally good weather, an airport 10 minutes away, etc. |

San Diego is sure a nice place Len but you're not going to get east coast fabricators to travel cross country. Being that this is the 1st show on this side, I think we're going to be real surprised at the turn out. You can only do the Vegas dance so many times. I think Cygnus is right on in rotating the show, as the IWF show does.
Our requests for passes has been tremendous. |

I like the San Diego idea also. Nice idea.
The switching back and forth from coast to coast is a great idea. |

I spoke with some people back from IBS (builder show). They said not only is it expensive to get there, but its costly once you do get there. Cabs etc are all much higher than Vegas. Be interesting what the attendance is, I hope its great. |

What does "cabs, etc" mean. This just in: NOBODY USES CABS IN FLORIDA. And, no free dinner buffetts because nobody in this state is losing their nads at blackjack. Orlando is family oriented and before someone attempts the "so is Vegas" line, I'll dispute that till I'm 90.
Thank God this show for once is out of the cesspool known as Vegas! |
