What we see the most is that products are over sold. Take solid surface for example, Sales Man tells customer that it will not scratch, chip or crack, it is the perfect counter top. This is just not true, come on the hardest product on earth, Diamonds, scratch, chip and crack so of course thier counter top will. What the Sales Man should be saying is ALL products can have problems, if you do with solid surface it can be RENEWED.  I guess people do not want to hear the truth, maybe Mory can help, he know sales.

Granite, Solid as a Rock!

Disclaimer: Excludes granite with fissures, pits, cheaper stone with porosity issues, users of red wine, olive oil, and bleach. Cracks not expected, although extreme care is taken when installing.  Installs over less than new cabinets may cause catastrophic collapses. Sealing is a must, cleaners may remove sealer, have your cleaners analyzed by a lab.  Fornication may be diffused by cold surface. May be used as a weapon in domestic disputes.

"Granite - don't leave the pizza box on overnight..."

"Granite and lally columns. Supporting your lifestyle."

"Granite and Radon - scratch and sniff" (okay, that wasn't fair)

"Solid Surface - no screwin' around."

"We get a lot of requests for granite tops. Even after explaining the downside to stone, they still want it. Won't take no for an answer. So we sell granite to people with rocks in their heads."

"Federal saw sells sealer by the gallon, we sell tops by the quartz."

with apologies to the Statler Brothers...

Does -    your -
Pizza box on the counter stain the sealer overnight?
Are you sad because there was no way to get the grain just right?
Did the salesman say you never have to seal the surface tight?
Does you pizza box stain the sealer on the counter overnight?

Norm, if your wife hasn't clubbed you with a granite chunk yet, she will after reading that post........

Good writing, though, can I use that?

Great one on the pizza box, they will remember that one.

Al, it's all yours.

Tom, you have to do the Expo.  If we all get together I'm sure it will be one of those times that your face hurts from laughing so much,

Had a customer ask a lot of questions after install of Solid Surface , about the weight that his bar top will withstand.  I finally said, "if you are asking if it will support the weight of your wife, go for it"  he just smiled and has been a satisfied customer eversince ...!!!!!  : -)

Dave, you got me with the other thread!
I have to find out if that hotel has any rooms left. Which one was it?
I only got about two hundred emails telling me to reserve a room, or four.

Umm, I assume that means 1 room, not 1 bed?

We just returned from a trip and spent 30 nights in hotels.  ALL of the new or remodeled Hampton Inns, Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn & other chains are putting granite on the bathroom counters and tub surrounds.  We were shocked at the poor quality of installations.  The panels on the tub surrounds were off set and sealed with silicone.  Some of the panels were wet up about 6", obviously not sealed between the tub and granite.  Some of the countertops were already showing stains on the countertops.  Most of these were installations not more than 2 years old.  Obviously, the hotel chains have designers that are specifying granite.  Where are the Solid Surface Spec. Reps?  Perhaps when the granite falls off of the wall because the support is so bad, and the countertops stain, the owners will rethink their decisions.

Good point Mom. I noticed on a stay in a hi-end hotel, that the stone vanities had water stains all over them. Asked the manager how long they had been in. 3 months he said. I guess they didn't bother to seal them. He said he had no clue if they were.
