Matt, please check page 2, near the end of the thread, of the bacteria test (fabricator community projects).  Formica might have some bacteria test info from years back that might shed some light on doing our own testing.  LG might have some as well.
"if it is so safe, why aren't they supporting the testing?"

We got a response.  After six months working with Consumer Reports I am excited to let everyone know that a relationship has been established for future testing.  The Fabricator Network is now their primary contact.  This will provide CR the proper "Real World" tests the consumers deserve.

Not only were the folks at CR extremely nice, they were more then happy to listen to our feedback.

Thanks to all involved: Al, Tom, Mory, Matt, and Val

All:

From the time I first brought this to the attention of fabricators (http://www.solidsurfacegeeks.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=472), Andy Graves was all over this thing and we owe him thanks and recognition. I was convinced that it was the role of the largest solid surface trade organization, ISSFA, and it's Executive Vice President, Robert Oxley, to respond to Consumer Reports. I stand by that premise, but I would never have imagined this success. The times, they are a-changin'.

Congratulations to everyone for their efforts and if I can help again, please let me know. Maybe the car seat thing helped us out or was that just coincidence?

Joe

"Sealer sold at home centers isn't that expensive" ?!?!

Sure, just left the Depot, they had one that's $154.00 per Gal. Funny thing is, it costs HD about 20 bucks. Is worth about $59.00 per Gal. But put a fancy label on it, BS the "do-it-yourselfers, and they'll buy it. And seal right over all the bacteria stored in the stone.
