We just took on Staron,  as a new line. We love the tempest series. How is it to work with? Anything to watch out for or any tricks to working with it. Does anyone know if the clear chunks are a clear poly imbedded in the acrlyic.

Paul,
Sanding can be a bit of a learning curve, and you'll want to take the Tempest series at least one step above matte at the least.

Norm has had some great posts on this if you know how to work the search function. I think he goes into the sanding steps in detail.

Also, I haven't tried it on Tempest yet, but I'd bet Dani's polishing system might be a good time saver on Tempest in particular. I bet you'll save at least two steps.

Hi Paul,

Yes that Staron Tempest series is great. Some nameless smart **s in China is knocking that off as we speak. That nameless smart **s  has got gotten good results with both clear themoset resins, and HMW polycarbonate as the large clear chip.

wink wink,

Lenny

Paul,
Like Tom said, if you go to search and enter Tempest, you will get a lot of information.
I just had a desk for my house done in Tempest Radiance. It looks great and I like looking at the copper particles when I should be working.

Linda was going to post a picture of her desk that we did for her home office. Wonder what happened to those pictures

We just completed a Staron Tempest Glimmer, polished and the material is remarkable.

You will have a tougher time sanding and it is kinda hard on the tooling.  Dulls the bits more than other materials.  Our minimum finish is 600 or 30mic and many prefer the polish.

I don't know if the entire "Stylist" series in the Tempest group is different from the rest of the Tempest group but the color Zenith sure is.

The job I am working on right now is a 2 1/2 sheet job.  I completely dulled two 3/8" router bits, my table saw blade, sink profile, cove, flushtrim.  You name it if the bit touched it it is dull now.
Something n that material is a carbide hog.  Oh, I forgot to mention a three jobs worth of sandpaper on one job.

I will need to figure in additional cost when I bid Stylist colors.

Durring lunch today I went to the Staron web site and looked at all the colors.  The Tempest Stylist colors are not in a group by themselves.

Last week I did a kitchen in Tempest Stylist Glimmer.  I didn't have any of the cutting or sanding issues that I have had with the Tempest Stylist Zenith color.  There is deffinately something different in the content of Zenith.  how are we supose to know ahead of time which colors will present different challenges if they are not seperated into different groups?

I hear you loud and clear on this.  Avonite and Corian both have colors that do this.  I thought i was going crazy when it first happened but it is taking the life out of the tools almost instantly.  They will continue to work, but barely.
