Anyone own a Fabricator's Choice (FC) panel saw??

This spring, we purchased a model FC VSM 6014 vertical Panel Saw and within a few weeks it broke down.  To make matters worse, parts availability is apparently 'nil', as we're into our 3rd month without this saw!  Fabricator's Choice has been a huge disappointment in after-sale support.

I wondered if others have had similar experiences with either this particular saw, or with Fabricator's Choice in general?

Still kicking myself for not buying the Streibig . . . !

Who are you talking with over there?

This is a big surprise because they are typically known for there great service?

CHobbs,

I'm not positive about this, but I believe that saw is made by Safety Spped Cut and Labeled for FC. Call them to verify, and if it is maybe they can help you get it running.

Andy, David Otten of Fabricator's Choice was at our facility most recently - about a month ago. We made the purchase based upon a demo at their St. Paul, MN facility. We, too, thought Fabricator's Choice was a reputable organization, but this first-hand experience has certainly diminished this view. The lack of urgency and response to this problem is surprising. After plunking down the money on a brand new saw, their interest waned quickly! It's very frustrating to say the least . . .

Mike G, thanks for the suggestion about Safety Speed Cut - we haven't any choice but to pursue this ourselves. Maybe that's what "Fabricator's Choice" really means!

Hi Mr Chobbs.

My advice is you should have purchased the Streibig. We had one at ISSFA. Even a tekkie, executive  like me found it easy to use, and the support was outstanding. Oxley never ceased thermoforming his butt to the shape of his chair to actually have time to use it. I may be going out on a limb here, but I think even Oxley could have used it with ease. And that says it all.

Chobbs:

If you don't mind my asking, how much was this saw?

If memory serves correctly, the entire cost of a Safety Speed Cut panel saw wouldn't be the down payment on a Striebig.

I have a safety speed cut I paid about $2500 for new...  Had a problem about 1 month in, they sent out a part the same day, and it has been great going on 3 yrs now.
I too have thought about a Streibig. I have watched them over the past 3 yrs and especially in the past several months, in the used machinery newspapers. While there was just one or 2 listed and the price of a used one was so close to a new one a couple of years ago, I really didn't want to pay that price. However, it seems now, there are dozens and dozens out there, along with many of their competitors saws at hugely discounted prices.  If you think Mccain will win, buy a used one now, or if you think Obama will, just wait a few months when the firesale really starts...  LOL....
Yep.... I said the Dow will go to 6000
