What is the current best option for a production router 3.5 hp.
Given the advent of Festool and the decline of Porter Cable, what is the lowdown on a good shop workhorse?

The Festool is a good name and I like the sanders and plunge saw real well. I however am a little diappoited in the Router. I got the one that they OE2000 I beleive, it is no longer available and they replaced it with a newer version for well way more than I think it would be worth without taking it for a good test spin first. It's not the power is not there it is just a feel thing with the handles, base plate and the like just do not flow for me on they way I fabricate.
I have several Porter cables and I like them real well good power and all. They are older models so that could make a difference.
I recently purchased a smaller bosch for edge profile work and laminte work. I like it so there is another option.
To pin me down right now and say you gotta get one or the other I am going with the Porter cable.
Lots a choices best is make sure can easily ger parts and repair service for which ever you choose.

PORTER CABLE  PORTER CABLE   None is better to take the long term abuse that we dish out.   (Just my opinion)

We have over 20 Porter Cable 3.5 HP plunge routers.  They last a long time and the price is right.

I have never used the Festool.  although is seams like they have lots of features, I just don't think they are used in solid surface fabrication.  Maybe one router with lots of features is cool, but otherwise I would rather have lots of routers at a lower price.

I have the Festool router 2000 to with the cup catcher attachment..Ionly use feel comfortable using it for profiles and trimming an edge on site..it catches the dust but everyday fabrication I like my Porter cables...I only have 1 plunge, I use the standards 3.5 alot and the 1.5 for profiling..the festool is in the case still...it feel like when you are cutting its gonna blow up...im sure it wont but it sure feel like it
