man.. It has been a couple of years since I looked at a used Compact Plus.  There are dozens of these things out there, with the price below what it used to be. I guess since many places are going out of business it is a buyers market.  I'm seeing several 2-4 years old at around $14000....   I have never purchased a used piece of equipment, but this might be a first.  At almost 1/2 off,  is this a time to jump in or not?

Kelsey,

It is definitely a buyers market, shop your best deal. We bought a used Holzer 1230 Panel saw in August 2004, other then minor replacement items it has run excellent. One word of caution have it inspected, moved, and set up by an experienced Tech, The one we used said it is very easy to rack the frame when you move them and if you do, you have a very expensive paper weight. This was my first piece of used equipment and was worth every penny.

Good observation Trevor. You must own a CNC.  Before the CNC area for us our Panel saw was out life line. Since the conception of the CNC and true nesting the saw is more of a comfort tool. But still valued.

Kelsey. Stri-begs retain good value. If you call the folks at Colonial saw they can tell you the age of the saw. They might even know a little history concerning that saw. Kind of like car fax's

Travis,

Not stupid at all. I started out with a Safety Speed Cut  panel saw and added a CNC with in a year. The saw collected dust and was used only occaisionally. As our volume picked up I bought the Holzher 1230 Panel saw. We use it to cut all our wood underlayment and if a top is going to be VGrooved we cut the blanks out on it. The saw also cuts strips faster and with less waste then the CNC.

Go for it Kelsey. At 4 years old a Striebig is not even broken in! Check the condition of the guides and rollers and also check for abuse.

Changing the industry, one tool at a time.

If you know someone in the area where the saw is being sold, have them go look at it and cut with it if possible.  Wouldn't hurt.

Panel saw is an awsome tool, but not mandatory if you have a cnc.

Hi Kelsey,

We had a Strieibeg at ISSFA. A really cool tool! I used it mostly for cutting up sheets into specimens for testing. The cuts were clean- I used to seam using the cuts right off the Striebig.

And you can slice and dice a sheet in seconds.

I bought a 2 year old Streibig at an auction and it was worth every penny.  There are great deals out there for sure!

Lenny, I know... when Steve tried to throw me a curve and made my template upside down, I just cut our top again on the saw and seamed directly .  Got a perfect joint!

I just got a used used machinery newspaper, and boy did it make my day!!!!  I was amazed at how many auctions was going on for companies south of the border!!   The used machinery companies are trying to hold the prices, but face it... there is becoming too many pieces on the market for sale. I think I will wait and save a few thousand!!!
