Check out this basic civics test to find out.  My score was 87.88%.

Hi Chris,

I took that the other day, after reading that our elected officials got an average F score (in the 40s). Great job, a B+, you beat me, I only got 81 point something, a mere B-.  Does this mean we are only qualified to vote, and have been barred from seeking elected office due to knowing too much about our  system of government

Seriously, Everyone should give it a try, its fun, and the test is automatically scored.

Heheh I think so Lenny! Or maybe it's just that we know enough to want to avoid getting into politics?

I actually should've gotten an A-. I second guessed myself on one question, and the last question is too ambiguous.

Yes, I thought 2 of the questions were ambiguous, and I was dissappointed I didnt score higher also, being an American and all. But after seeing the average score of our elected officials (40s) I really didnt feel too awful about it.

Yeah, because Susan B Anthony actually did lead against slavery (as well as women's suffrage). Flood levees - two answers are correct, if you're a liberal. The supreme court/Roosevelt question kind of works with two answers. The free market question has two possibly correct answers. The fiscal policy question was all over the map.

87.8% Dang. Double checked myself on the Lincoln/Douglas debates, changed my answer from the right choice to the wrong one.

Yes Tom I know what ya mean. Some of those questions were really ambiguous, and there were several correct answers. Hey at least we didnt get scores in the 40s! I still cant believe our gummit guys F'd the test. Thats pretty Sad, incredulous, and hilarious all at the same time . Is that what youd call Sacredalarious?

Tom, I thought the same that you did about the Susan B Anthony question, so I started looking stuff up and learned something. Anthony was a well-known opponent of slavery before the war, but shortly after it ended (1869) she had a sort of falling-out with the folks who were pushing for rights for the former slaves because she thought they were leaving out women. The test question gave as one option that she was a leader of the movement to "guarantee former slaves the right to vote". What I learned was that she was a leader of the movement to abolish slavery, but was devoted almost entirely to women's issues after the Civil War. Kind of tricky for a multiple choice test, but technically they may have it right.

I missed 3, by the way.

I agree with you, Randy. I answered the correct question because it was so blatantly obvious. She got upset that Frederick Douglas pretty much abandoned her after the black vote was passed. I think there were reasons why he had to, and if I remember my history, he wrote her about it.

Kinda interesting parallel to today, don't you think?
