Joe, are you persuing a degree? I would have to go back to middle school for the basics at this point |

Learning for it's own sake. It seems like doing all this work just so I could be a dentist one day cheapens the whole experience. However, my wife is much more practical and would like to see my education translate into more earning power. I don't know about that. I'm drawn to the arts and there sure as hell isn't any money there. I feel like a guy who just dove into the pool and wants to swim around a bit before he figures out where he's going. Joe |

The reason I asked is because my best friend decided to do the same , that is to say pursue more education. He is a ship's pilot and has an extensive education but seems he had an epiphany and wanted to learn more. He spends lots of time in airports jumping from one remote location to another so he has lots of time to read. He is into quantum physics and string theory now. EEEEEEEERRRRROOOOWWWWWW! right over my head. Last year he studied religions and their origin, his wife refered to him as the "anti christ"  . Good for you Joe, I think it's great. I try to take acouple courses every winter but this counter buiz has me totaly occupied. |

My grade for my process analysis English paper, “A Man’s Guide to Complimenting a Woman”, came today. Besides “A”, this is what Ms. Revard, my professor, wrote on my paper:
“Great job Joe and a humorous voice. I think this essay could only be polished by naming “types” of compliments in your topic sentences and then providing anecdotes and examples.
For example:
the “stranger” compliment
the “associate” compliment
the “date-seeking” compliment
or something along those lines.
This might be good enough to publish.” (Emphasis mine.)
The lesson here is not to brag, but to follow your heart and instincts when you write. Sometimes you’ll bomb, but you’ll never get an “A” without disregarding detractors and taking some risk.
Ahhh, the sweet taste of vindication.

Jon: Thanks. I just realized that "Sometimes you'll bomb, but you'll never get an "A" without disregarding detractors and taking some risk." is excellent business advice also. Don't make me look up all the billionaires who went bankrupt before they finally hit it big. I'll bet all their father-in-laws who doubted them then are enjoying eating their words now. Joe |

I've converted my History paper into my English Argumentation paper, which is 20% of my grade. Those of you who have read my History presentation will see some repetition here, but you haven't read the interview I did with Alan Canfora who was shot by the Ohio National Guard at Kent State University on May 4, 1970.
I got a "B+" on this in History, we'll see if my editing can get me an "A" in English. It's a long one, fourteen pages, but classmates have called it "compelling" and I managed to use "distractingly attractive" again.

Joe your a much braver person than I am. I would only question one sentence, being "Fortunately for us, women are a forgiving lot with a relatively short memories and big hearts". Perhaps females in Michigan are different than females in the rest of the country. Forgiving lot ? Ummm after being married for 40+ years, trust me when I say they NEVER forget, NEVER EVER. You may believe they have, but, they haven't. Then can tell you what you did at a wedding 35 years ago and with whom, (especially if it happens to be a sister of hers.. .gulp.) The only advice I could offer is, when you wake up in the morning, roll over, say good morning dear Im sorry. There is ALWAYS something to be sorry for, even if its only in her dreams.

Wags: As usual, you are correct. However, like when they turn a literary masterpiece into a movie, the director takes a bit of license with the truth. Since my English teacher is female, I had to say what I needed to say to get the grade. I have found that there is an implied "statute of marital limitations" which means that if your wife hasn't taken any action on the event at the wedding thirty-five years ago, you are exempt from any reprisials should you detail that event for our entertainment value here. As a relative marital lightweight with only twenty-seven years experience, I have experienced my wife's anger at my behavior in HER dreams. Your tactic of preemptive apologizing sets an excellent role model for the less experienced among us. Your comments on my attachment on my previous post will be as appreciated as these were.
