Hello Everyone. Here's a link to a Show Formica is in involved in. They gathered some of the top architects and designers to each design a project out of Formica surfaces. The pieces are on display in Chicago this week.

Very nice, Jon. I noticed you guys did a few of those. Do you get to charge for it, or is it reputation/bragging rights kind of thing?

Thanks Jon,

That link was great. I especially liked the furniture. Its nice to see major manufacturers, like Formica,  concentrating on cutting edge design. That can only be a good thing!

Jon,

What is the deal with the prices? Are these items up for auction and do they sell for those prices?

Nice work though. I wish I had a designing bone in my body, I could end up making some pretty nice stuff.

Hello Tom. Yes we where paid to make the projects(Let me add we haven't sent the bill yet). Bragging rights are always useful in this marketing world we live in.

Lenny I agree when manufactures do things like this it only helps the fabricators.

Andy the folks purchasing these items are looking at this as a chance to own something from a world class designer if you check out there web-sites you can see there world class.. It's art to them. Most of these projects will be one of a kind. We ask if we could make a chair for ourselves to keep in our showroom. The answer was no.

For the record our price to fabricate was not even close to those prices

A few factors are needed.

The tools to do the work.

Good networking skills

A programmer you can trust

Enter projects in the design contest people notice.

Beat the bush visiting architects.

Ask your distributors how they can promote you.

Be willing to risk a few bucks
