The other day we got a PaperStone shipment.  The material was damaged and could not be salvaged to make the countertop.  The driver of the delivery company was real nice so we accepted the shipment with the paperwork stating it was damaged.  The drive had many more stops and if we didn't offload the material, it would have been in his way for the rest of the day.

Here comes the bad news.  Once we accepted the material, it became our problem.  We had to contact the shipper and report the damage.  Then a third party company had to inspect the damage to make a determination.  We had to then place the order again and pay a second time.  In the mean time the shipper may or may not reimburse us for the material.

If you refuse delivery, you pay nothing and it is not your problem what so ever.

That sux huh?..thats what the problem is in my case...I kinda organize pretty much when it comes in I gotta start fabricating...I aint got time to be waiting for paperwork and stuff and claims...I also hate that these MFGs send the stuff like its indestructable....the Paperstone should be shipped like glass...the drivers stack stuff on top of it and slide stuuff all over the top...by the time it gets to me in Florida...which is the last stop.......the paperstone looks like the top of the pallet

Yo driver !!! where the hell is da Paperstone? right there

I now tell my customers on Lead time based upon material arrival in good condition before i can give them a time to install...delivery and availability is no good anymore.....oh! and the shipping pricings   jeez i thought they were wrapping the stuff in silk....

I now have a line of multi distributorswhich help me...Andy do you use Northstar in Minnesota...i know they are further away but they are worth that when it comes to shipping...I just got three slabs of vetrazzo from them and its flawless

I'll be getting Paperstone from them during the week as well...plus Paul Yonnelly supports the fabnet

This was thefault of the shipper and not the manufacturer. I am not sure where the material comes from. The second shipment was better protected.

Yeah, I found that out the hard way.  After receiving and accepting a couple of damaged shipments, noting the damage and filing claims.  Then waiting for the resolution (two weeks).  I now reject damaged shipments and let the distributor sort it out.  New material is usually here in two days.

A couple of times I accepted the shipment anyway because it was a simple matter to figure how to cut around the damage while fabricating so it was a non issue.  Still noted the damage on the shipping paperwork however.

Do you guys ever get sheets, very securely banded to the skid, only to notice the sheets are overhanging on one end? Anytime I get end damage, this is the reason... so whose fault is that?  I have always been like Johnny, figure out a way to use the material if I can,.

My point is, sometimes it is the packaging of our material that increases the amount of risk to damage.

Yep.... I said the Dow will go to 6000

We always try to use the material because in the end the cost of shipping will fall on the fabricator.

If it is too much extra hassle to use the material, and you have time to wait for a replacement shipment, deffinately refuse it.  If you make it so the distributor doesn't have to deel with it there is little hope for improvement.

I learned that with silgranit sink shipments.  We open the box while the driver is still there and inspect the sink before we will sign for it.  I had one damaged that took over 2 months to get reimbursed on.
